Ring Sizing Guide
Heads up: we're temporarily out of ring sizers as we just launched this service. Orders placed before May 20, 2026, may experience a short delay before the sizer ships. We'll keep you updated and email you as soon as yours is on the way.
Because every DR Rings piece is handcrafted to order, getting your size right the first time matters. The free ring sizer we send with every "Unsure" order is designed to make this easy — but a few minutes of care now will save you a remake later.
Before you measure
Finger size changes throughout the day depending on temperature, activity, and even what you've eaten. For the most accurate result:
- Measure in the late afternoon or early evening. Fingers are at their truest average size at this time.
- Make sure your hand is warm. Cold fingers shrink and will give you a size that's too small.
- Don't measure right after exercise or a salty meal. Both cause temporary swelling.
- Measure the exact finger on the exact hand where you'll wear the ring. Dominant-hand fingers are often slightly larger than the same finger on the other hand.
How to use your ring sizer — step by step
- Hold the sizer with the numbered side facing you. The pointed end is the strap; the small opening is the buckle.
- Feed the pointed end through the buckle so it forms a loop.
- Slip the loop over your finger and slide it down to the base, where the ring will sit.
- Gently pull the strap to tighten the loop. It should feel snug but comfortable — not pinching, and not loose enough to spin freely.
- The knuckle test: while keeping the loop at the size you've set, try to slide it back off over your knuckle. It should pass over with a small amount of resistance. If it won't come off at all, the size is too tight; loosen it slightly and try again.
- Once the fit feels right, read the number on the strap where it meets the buckle. That's your ring size.
- To remove the sizer, lift the small tab on the buckle (or gently pry it open) and slide the strap back out.
Tips for the most accurate result
- Measure two or three times across different times of day, then go with the most common reading.
- If you're between sizes, round up. A slightly loose ring is far easier to live with than one that won't come off.
- Wide bands need extra room. If the ring you ordered is wider than 6mm, go up by half a size from your normal measurement. Wider rings cover more of your finger and naturally fit more snugly.
- Large knuckles, smaller base? If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, you'll need a size that comfortably passes over the knuckle but won't spin or fall off at the base. Let us know in your email and we can help you figure out the best fit.
A note on handmade rings
Unlike rings from a chain jeweller, most DR Rings pieces — particularly bentwood and ceramic designs — can't be easily resized once made. The size you give us is the size we craft. We'd much rather you take an extra day to measure carefully than have to send your ring back for a remake.
If you're at all uncertain, email us before confirming. We're happy to talk through it with you.
Send us your size
Once you're confident in your measurement, email drrings1@gmail.com with:
- Your order number
- Your ring size (whole or half)
- The width of the ring you ordered (helpful, not required)
- Any notes — large knuckle, between sizes, etc.
We'll begin crafting your ring as soon as we receive your size. Standard production time is around 3 days from confirmation.
If something doesn't fit
We've done our best to make sizing foolproof, but if your finished ring still doesn't fit, our remake terms are laid out in our Return & Refund Policy. Please read it carefully before ordering — the terms differ depending on whether you used the sizer or not.
Questions about any of this? Email drrings1@gmail.com and we'll help you out.
